Tim Bray on Atom and RSS
Tim Bray, one of the driving forces behind Atom, has posted an adaptation of his ETech 2006 talk. Some highlights:
“RSS 2.0 has the biggest mindshare and market share; deservedly, in my opinion. Most people, starting from scratch, would (correctly) pick 2.0 as the RSS version to go with.”
“… For reasons that nobody seems to understand, working on syndication standards flips the ***hole bit, even in the most reasonable people …”
“If “Web 2.0” means anything, it means the Writeable Web, and right now writing requires special tools and most of them aren’t very good… we need the [Atom Publishing Protocol] to make that happen.”
