Roll Your Own Feed with Publi.sh

Ever wish you could create a quick RSS feed without XML munging or using a blog? A quick to-do list, group announcement vehicle, site updates, etc? Thus far your best bet was to use FeedForAll, a payware desktop application.

Now there is a free online service called Publi.sh… a model of simplicity and elegance combined. Here’s how easy it is to use:

  1. Create a free account. You’ll be emailed an activation link.
  2. Login and post a new item. The form even allows a media attachment… think easy podcasting. The form looks like this:

  3. Rather not go to the website? Want to feedcast from your Treo? Just send an email to a secret email address that comes with your feed. HTML or BBcode in the email will be passed through, and your email becomes a new feed item.
  4. Subscribe and hand out the RSS 2.0 feed URL to whoever needs it. (Atom is not an option at this point.)
  5. Finished using the feed? Publi.sh calls all feeds “disposable”: When everybody has unsubscribed and there are no hits for 2 weeks, the system throws it (and the login account you used) away.

Congrats to Charles Coxhead for a neat offering.
