Attention Blog ReadeRSS

(Yeah, the title joke is getting old.)

Google’s new blog search is offering your search results as either an RSS or Atom feed. Links at the bottom of the page either 10 or 100 items in the search results feed, but the URL can easily be altered to return any number between 1 and 100, inclusive.

Google is indexing new entries remarkably fast; my last post appeared in mere minutes. And, you can get fairly specific in your search criteria: Advanced options include the ability to filter results by language, title, author, url, date, and more.

Having an up-to-the-minute aggregate feed that spans the blogosphere on your own search terms is remarkably powerful. I can think of a number of creative uses off the bat, not the least of which is to keep up on word-of-mouth about a certain product or service.

It is worth noting that Technorati has long been providing an RSS 2.0 feed for tag-related searches, but your results are limited to only posts explicitly tagged by the author. Google’s free-text searching is considerably more robust. And although MSN Search provides an RSS feed of search results, new blog entries don’t hit it nearly as fast as Google’s blogsearch. Update: Woops… 5 days later and this article still isn’t indexed. Ironic, eh?
