Open Letter to eWeek

To Lisa Vaas, eWeek Editor.

Ms. Vaas,

Regarding your article “Lightweight Version of RSS Released” on the so-called RSS3. I’ve looked and looked, and can’t find any evidence that RSS3 isn’t anything more than one guy’s attempt at 15 minutes of fame. Can you find anybody else who has contributed to the RSS3 specification, concept, or website other than Jonathan Avidan? What are the credentials of a guy who has apparently decided to change years worth of syndication evolution single-handedly?

First The Register and now eWeek have reported RSS3 as “the next thing,” but I can’t find any real voices in the industry who can lend the slightest credibility to lend to this. It would appear that one guy has put up a website making earnest claims about a new spec, and the press is starting to fall for it. And yet, Avidan’s website and specification appear to have no more authority than this little jest.

Please, prove me wrong.

Sincerely,

Mark Woodman

eWeek Responds: RSS3 is “Isolated and Tangential”

I saw that you have a page that discusses patent-related resources at http://inkblots.markwoodman.com/2005/08. I wanted to suggest adding www.freepatentsonline.com to the page. This web site has free PDF downloading (instead of having to page through TIFFs like at the US PTO). It is by far the best free patent searching site.
