Longhorn Bundles RSS Support
The Associated Press is reporting that Future Windows Will Include RSS Support. It would seem that Internet Explorer is finally getting an RSS icon “late next year,” which answers some musings I made in May 2005. This is yet another confirmation that syndicated feeds are becoming a standard part of computing, albeit slowly.
Microsoft’s announcement also has to be a satisfying point to Mac users, who are enjoying RSS support in Safari at this very moment.
What will be interesting to see is how they handle all the various feed flavors out there. It’s reasonable to assume they’ll have some .NET libraries that parse everything, perhaps even into a common format, similar to the way ROME does for Java development. Ideally Microsoft would make it easy to read/produce RSS feeds from any Windows app, but I suspect that sort of friendliness is not coming anytime soon.
And for the paranoid out there, the big question is: Will MS use this as the mechanism for pushing their own syndication format. RSS-MS, anyone?

Don’t you love it when you say something sarcastically, and then moments later you find out it is true? My apologies to the paranoid out there… you have reason to be:
